Film NOIR ( dark or black cinema) was a film style coined by French film critics to describe many American and French crime and detective films from around 1940-1960.......this style developed during and after World War II, that resulted from the post-war ambience of anxiety, suspicion and pessimism. Film noir decribes the mood, style or tone of a film. Its themes deal with melancholy, alienation, bleakness, disillusionment, disenchantment, pessimism, ambiguity, moral corruption, evil, guilt and paranoia. The protagonists in film noir are normally driven by their human weakness. Many noir films showcase the hero's own cynical perspective on life. Many times an "ordinary citizen, and law-abiding average joe" is lured into a life of crime by the femme fatale he falls for, ultimately leading to his downfall, despair and even death. |
